You might be like everyone — expected to plan your holiday, snowbird vacation, do your gift shopping and help kids with their activities. A lot to do and let’s say you’re already tired.
Fatigue, distraction, busy schedules, alcohol, and unfamiliar activities add up to accidents waiting to happen. And insurance claim statistics confirm that the holidays are a dangerous time. But so is the whole winter period. Fire is the main culprit, but road collisions, snowmobile accidents, and falls and slips on sidewalks are other hazards we need to keep mindful of.
Allstate Insurance recently published some statistics regarding the hazards of the holidays. They’re corroborated by reports from a UK insurance company.
Half of all respondents in the Allstate survey said they drank alcohol more than usual, were too busy, and were doing unfamiliar things like cooking and baking new things. People do this consistently throughout the winter.
Think About Those Unfamiliar Things
Winter darkness, electrical appliance demands, ice, lack of sleep, longer commute times can make the winter the most hazardous season. It’s wise to slow down at times and make sure you’re paying attention to safety. Have a safe and happy winter season!
